Youtube Trance Channels

By now, most of you are very familiar with Youtube. I’d even bet that a lot of you visit Youtube on a daily basis. This isn’t surprising because it is the most popular video-sharing site on the net by a wide margin. Despite this popularity, a number of us are unaware of some very neat features on the site.

One such feature, which will be the focus of this post, is what Youtube calls a “channel”. A “channel” on Youtube is essentially a home base for videos produced by some entity. This entity could be a private individual, an organization, a group, etc. What’s nice about this, and especially cool for us trance lovers is that a number of the top trance labels have established extensive channels of their own.

Below, I’ve assembled a small collection of my top 5 trance label channels on Youtube.

Positiva Records

Positiva Records Youtube Channel

Positiva Records, founded in 1993 as a dance outlet for EMI Music has grown into what is today one of the most popular trance labels of all. Positiva is not specifically focused on trance music. In fact, they pride themselves on their broad genre-crossover ability. On this label you’ll find the likes of Alice Deejay(ahh the nostalgia), Axwell, BBE, David Guetta, Deep Dish, Ferry Corsten, Filo & Peri, Fragma, Milk Inc., Paul Van Dyk, and many more top artists.

Black Hole Recordings

Black Hole Recordings was founded in 1997 by arguably the greatest trance artist to ever live, Tiesto. BHR is also home to Mark Norman, JES, Deadmau5, and a number of up-and-coming artists as well.

Nukleuz Records

Nukleuz was established in 1996 by Peter Pritchard of UK Media Records. Nukleuz stands out from the other labels in this list because they predominantly represent the harder side of trance and house. Their artists include BK, Andy Farley, Nick Sentience, Mauro Picotto, Mario Piu, Lisa Pin-Up(not ugly), Organ Donors, Disco Brothers, P.H.AT.T. and more.

Perfecto Records

Perfecto Records is a UK based trance label founded by the legendary Paul Oakenfold in 1989. Some of the notable artists on the Perfecto label include Sandra Collins, Hernan Cattaneo, Paul Oakenfold, Timo Maas and more.

Armada Music

Last, but certainly not least on my list is the Armada Music Channel. Armada Music is my favorite label on this list. They specialize in trance music and were founded by the great Armin Van Buuren in 2003. Other artists on the label include Aly and Fila, Andy Moor, Armin Van Buuren, Dash Berlin, Dave202, Gabriel & Dresden, Interstate, Jan Johnston, Lange(AKA Firewall), M.I.K.E.(AKA Push), Markus Schulz, Motorcycle, Oceanlab, John O’Callaghan, Sean Tyas, Signum, Space Brothers, and Vincent de Moor.

10 Amazing Trance Artist Websites

As a web designer, I’m often spending way too much time browsing the web for inspirational websites. I thought it would be a cool idea to check out trance artist websites and pick out a bunch that you should definitely take a look at. After hours of visiting the websites of virtually every trance artist I’ve ever heard of, I came up with a “top 10″ list of inspirational designs.

On a macro level, I’d give trance artist websites pretty high marks compared to many other industries. The creativity these guys/girls put into their music is also quite evident in their websites. However, I’m not going to lie. Some of the websites I saw just plain sucked. I’m not talking about any bedroom dj’s either. A number of the top 10 trance artists in the world had shit websites. What I think some of these artists fail to realize is that we live in a world where people constantly crave being “connected”. As an artist, you need to make it as easy as possible for your fans to satisfy this craving. If you’re website is shit, I’m not satisfied. I don’t think a lot of you are either.

But enough ranting. Let’s take a look at my top 10 trance artist website list(in no particular order).

1. Marcel Woods (musicalmadness.nl/mm/)

I love the half Marcel, half alter-ego image gracing the homepage. Great grungy look.

2. Filo & Peri (filoandperi.com)

I like the professional, yet creative grunge look. I’m also digging how the social bookmarking site links jump right out at you. Filo & Peri get it.

3. Talla 2XLC (talla2xlc.com)

One of the cleanest sites I looked at. However, there is still enough creativity that it holds my interest. Great focus on merchandise.

4. Deadmou5 (deadmau5.com)

Deadmou5 is pretty much a branding genius. His mouse ears are unmistakable. Not surprisingly, this persona is carried throughout the website – creating a unique experience.

5. Steve Lawler (djstevelawler.com)

You navigate Steve’s site by interacting with some turntables. Sweet.

6. Fedde Le Grand (feddelegrand.com)

Fedde’s site is dark and grungy, but features a vibrant green color that captures your attention. Effective layout too.

7. ATB (atb-music.com)

Not the most visually stunning site I found, but ATB has built in a lot of interactivity that kept me entertained for far too long.

8. Nic Fanciulli (nicfanciulli.com)

Creative site with vibrant colors. Flash-based, but not slow like a lot of the flash-based sites I came across.

9. Andy Hunter (andyhunter.com)

The content portion of Andy Hunter’s website isn’t anything fancy. In fact, it’s too small, and de-emphasized too much. However, I absolutely loved how the background photo of Andy changed with each new page.

10. Paul Van Dyk (http://www.paulvandyk.com/index.aspx)

Paul’s new site is pretty cool. However, the splash screen as you enter the site is amazing. The vivid imagery is breathtaking.
